Pakistan Militancy Reports
Periodic analytical dossiers compiling ground intelligence, violent non-state actor operations, TTP/BLA kinetic activities, and Pakistan counter-terrorism capabilities.
Pakistan Militancy Bi-Annual Report - January - June 2026
CNAWS assesses that the operational environment in Pakistan experienced sustained, high-intensity conflict throughout the first half of 2026. The reporting period demonstrates a security trajectory characterised by persistent insurgent momentum across multiple geographic theatres. With 1,610 recorded incidents resulting in 2,927 total fatalities between January and June, the data indicates that violence remains deeply entrenched rather than episodic. The conflict increasingly reflected the parallel evolution of two distinct but mutually reinforcing security crises: the Pashtun militant1 ecosystem operating predominantly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Baloch insurgent networks active throughout Balochistan. Together, these two threat environments generated significant operational friction for the Pakistani state, dictating the pace and spatial distribution of violence.
Pakistan Militancy Report - May 2026
Militant activity across Pakistan intensified during May 2026, with both incident volume and casualties increasing compared with April. CNAWS recorded 345 security-related incidents during the reporting period, including 277 militant attacks and clashes and 68 counterterrorism operations. Total reported casualties rose to 652, reflecting an elevated operational tempo across multiple theaters. Compared with April, total incidents increased by 26.8%, attacks increased by 30.7%, and overall casualties rose by 40.8%, indicating a broad-based escalation rather than a localized surge.
Pakistan Militancy Report - April 2026
April 2026 recorded 272 total incidents, including 212 militant attacks, indicating a sustained operational tempo within expected historical ranges. Militant activity remained concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (148 events) and Balochistan (110 events), together accounting for the overwhelming majority of violence. These regions also carried the highest casualty burden, reflecting their role as primary conflict theatres. Operational patterns show militant groups retaining initiative, with security force actions largely reactive to insurgent activity rather than pre-emptive disruption.
